Some have been chewed down and dragged of by beavers Elk have eaten others, sometimes pushing the fencing down Deer and trespassing cows love the fresh buds and new leaves We found that one small tree we planted was broken off at the ground and used to toast marshmallows And, sadly, all of the trees that we planted right at the Hot Spring were violently vandalized So, over the years we have been surrounding the plants with ever-taller fences Fear not, these are only temporary. They will be removed as the trees become hardier, thicker skinned, taller and more numerous |

Life is hard for our new trees |

We have looked at the vegetation along our rivers in prehistoric times by studying old pack rat nests. We have found that the plant community frequently changes, with forests coming and going. We feel that now is a time when almost any increase in forests good. |
