On the Rio Chama is a 160-acre river terrace that had been grazed to bare ground. Since 1997, Rio Grande Restoration has partnered with groups such as the Rocky Mountain Youth Corps, Randall Davey Audubon Center, Big Brothers/Bid Sisters Albuquerque program, and the BLM-Taos Resource Area in replanting the site with young native cottonwoods and willows, grasses, and other native under story vegetation. |
|
Goals of the Project are to: • Reduce erosion • Reduce non point source pollution • Provide a more diverse environment • Mitigate the loss of river bosque elsewhere in the region • Restore the riparian community to include a larger percentage of native species with the reduction of undesirable invasive species • Provide an opportunity for individuals and groups to participate in a direct action to improve the environment. |
